As a preventative health strategy, Ayurveda prescribes a daily regimen for maintaining one’s good health; this routine includes general rules for personal hygiene (dinacharya).

One of these hygiene rules relates to the drinking of one to two glasses of pre-boiled water first thing in the morning after having rinsed the mouth. Those with colder Vata and Kapha constitutions should drink warm water, those with a warmer Pitta constitutions should drink it at room temperature.

Drinking warm water on an empty stomach is beneficial for the digestive system and stimulates the elimination of toxins. Moreover, warm water dilates and cleans out the body’s circulatory system, thereby boosting the overall circulation of fluids. It also has a positive impact on the urinary system seeing as it cleanses the bladder and has diuretic properties.

If carried out daily, this routine will help cleanse the organism and lead to a greater sense of well-being at all times.
